AIM OF THE COURSE:
- To introduce the students to the history and principles of literary theory and thereby
- To enhance the vision of students by introducing them to newest developments in theory.
- Get to know the basics of structuralism, post-structuralism, psychoanalysis, postcolonialism, post-modernism, and ecocriticism.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:
- To cultivate among the students an understanding of important texts and movements in the history of literary theory.
- To enable the learners to critically approach literature and culture in the context of theory.
- To enrich the students through various perspectives of thinking and critique the major arguments presented in theory.
- To promote a pluralistic perspective of culture and literature in a multicultural society.
Indian Writing in English is a vast area with infinite literary works and writers spanning across various periods. It highlights Indian multiculturalism, its encounter with foreign cultures, and the impacts of colonialism, neo-colonialism, globalization, and similar movements upon our culture. The learners need to be aware of the different levels of Indian challenges, reactions and responses to these movements.
